The new Telegram monetization program is introduced
The price of the TON token increased by 30%. This happened on February 28 after Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced a reward for displaying advertising for channel owners in the messenger.
Starting next month, the Telegram Ads platform will become available to advertisers in almost 100 new countries. Channel owners will be able to claim 50% of the profits that the platform earns when displaying advertising. The reward will be paid in the form of TON.
According to Durov, every month Telegram channels provide about 1 trillion views. But only 10% of views are monetized using Telegram Ads.
“We will sell ads and share revenue with channel owners in Toncoin. This will create a virtuous circle, in which content creators will be able to either cash out their Toncoins — or reinvest them in promoting and upgrading their channels,” said the creator of Telegram.
The media, citing sources, reported that the new monetization program will not work in the Russian Federation and other CIS countries. As the interlocutors noted, the project is focused on markets where the Telegram advertising model, which started working in 2021, has not previously been launched.
“It makes sense to open new markets and countries. Building networks of agencies around the world, etc. is somewhat tedious. And in Russia, advertising on Telegram already sells well,” one of the sources noted.
After the explosive growth provoked by the statement of Pavel Durov, the value of TON began to decline. The token is currently worth around $2.65, according to Coinmarketcap data.
